Preview: Disappears @ Church 10.23.13

Chicago quartet Disappears have spent the past five years honing in on a particular brand of clanging, krautrock-tinged post-punk. A minimalist rhythm section – spearheaded on the previous tour by Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, godfather of minimalist rhythm sections – underlies abrasive guitars and the bark of vocalist Brian Case to craft their sound. The band is already four albums deep, with this year’s Era distilling that sound nicely into 40 no-nonsense minutes of tense and artfully sinister jams.
Though the band tours rather extensively, it’s been quite a while since their last appearance in our fair city. Thankfully, that will change come Wednesday. Disappears will co-headline Fenway-area club Church alongside San Francisco shoegazers Weekend. If you’re searching for next week’s fix of very loud and very awesome things, this show should fit the bill quite well. Tickets are on sale now.
