When I arrived at the PNC Bank Arts Center last Saturday to see Big Time Rush, it was immediately clear that I did not fit in. I fell into the “oldest person at the show that isn’t a parent” crowd, but at the same time I wasn’t ashamed. Big Time Rush is a four-piece Columbia Records band (Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Carlos Pena Jr) that was formed in conjunction with Nickelodeon – they have a TV show of the same name that features a new song or two each episode – which pretty much makes them a modern day version of The Monkees. The television show may target the younger demographic (aka most of the concert attendees) but the music is fun, upbeat, and enjoyable for all ages. That same energy translates to their live show. The stage setup was CRAZY – a trampoline in the center, risers with poles to slide down and more, which made their hour and a half set VERY enjoyable to watch. It was hard not to have a good time and I think I speak for everyone in the crowd when I say that.
If you’re looking to embrace the recent boy-band craze, definitely listen to Big Time Rush. They’re all around our age (early 20s), have good voices and catchy tunes, especially their new single, “Windows Down.” It’ a summer jam. Oh, and the Obama family approves so…what are you waiting for?
