Hush Now – Hush Now
by Tom Klodenski (Music Industry, Business Administration), published September 1st 2010
The genre is Shoegaze. As in gazing at your shoes. If you think this genre sounds as uninspiring as the similarly named T trip activity, The Hush Now are ready to make you think differently, and their self-titled 11 track album released this year is a great introduction to the genre. Drums, guitars, phat analog synth leads, and more drums submerge a harmonized vocal sound not far off from the hijinks of Wayne Coyne’s Flaming Lips. There’s only one solution in getting the lyrics and harmonies out, and that’s getting the volume UP. And that’s the point. The majority of this record shows a relentless wash of sound across the board, creating an experience in itself. However crude the technique seems, it’s definitely effective. If this record is any example of what The Hush Now pulls off live, I’ve got a show see and some brown shoes to get gazing at. Download the record FOR FREE here. Soon shoe-gazing might become something you’ll look forward to.
