Fang Island – Fang Island
by Emily Morgan, published June 24th 2010
Fang Island, what originally started as a Rhode Island School of Design art project, has become a SXSW sensation and indie-adored band since the new release of their self-titled album. Although Fang Island presents a general lack of vocals, the progressive vibe and classic rock and organ-inspired instrumental interludes make this an upbeat, compelling, and inspirational album.
‘Dreams of Dreams,’ the opening song, begins with a bang, literally. Fireworks and the powerful mantra ‘They are all within my reach. We are free,’ merely sets the scene for the charismatic and aspiration-type feel Fang Island’s album encompasses. Lead guitarist, Jason Bartell, said Fang Island’s goal was to ‘make music for people who like music.’ And with the unpredictability and infectious melody of their newest album, Fang Island has done just that.

Made up of a guitarist from the band Daughters, Nicholas Andrew Sadler, and four others from the afore-mentioned town: Jason Bartell (guitar), Chris Georges (guitar), Marc St Sauvuer (drums), and Michael Jacober (bass), Fang Island makes music that they describe as "everyone high-fiving everyone." They make music for people who like music.
