El Ten Eleven – These Promises Are Being Videotaped
by Andrew Phan (Pharmacy and Music Industry), published July 30th 2010
The names of the songs alone should be reason enough to buy this album on iTunes. The first two songs of the album are called ‘Jumping Frenchmen of Maine’ and ‘I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool.’ El Ten Eleven is an entirely DIY and self-released instrumental band from Los Angeles. A quote on their website describes the most recent album as ‘Kraftwerk in the Sky’ because of its balanced mixture of progressively layered post-rock guitar work and electronic drum and guitar pedal sounds. This catchy amalgamation of instrumental music is created by only a bassist, a drummer and delay pedals. If you thought Ratatat was impressive, check out bassist, Kristian Dunn, go nuts on a guitar/bass double-neck.

About El Ten Eleven

El Ten Eleven is a Los Angeles-based instrumental rock duo consisting of Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty. What separates El Ten Eleven from their musical peers is that they are only two musicians on stage creating pounding landscapes of sound with no laptops or sequencers. Dunn switches off (sometimes mid-song) between a double-neck bass/guitar and a fretless bass, while his feet dance on an extensive floorboard of looping devices and effects pedals. He plays everything live, loops himself and juggles all the layers of tracks on top of each other.
