Lupe Fiasco – Around My Way (Freedom Isn’t Free) TRACK REVIEW

by Jeff Curry (Behavioral Neuroscience), published May 23rd 2012

A breath of fresh air. Jay-Z’s inspiring description of Lupe Fiasco made some six years ago now reapplies as the figurehead indirectly responsible for Lasers has finally been impeached. The original Lupe Fiasco is back and better than ever, picking up where he left off in 2007 with The Cool. Sampling Pete Rock and CL Smooth’s “TROY” (inspired by Tom Scott’s “Today”), “Around My Way” is the strongest track Fiasco has released in at least four years. Period. What a beautiful breath of fresh air, indeed. Check out the track here and be on the lookout for news surrounding Lupe Fiasco’s The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, tentatively set for release on September 25.
