New Anamanaguchi Single: “Meow”

anamanaguchi-meow-250x250Seminal chip-punk outfit Anamanaguchi has released a music video for their new single, “Meow,” which will appear on their upcoming album, Endless Fantasy, slated for release in Spring 2013. In the video, the band finds themselves separated in an arcade where they meet grizzly ends at the hands of ravers, jocks, and goths, only to be revived by a mystical floating cat head. If that sounds bizarre to you, that’s because you’re right – the video plays like a Baz Luhrmann film run through a 16-bit processor. Anamanaguchi’s new video succeeds for this reason, not in spite of it. With over 80,000 views in 24 hours and a cameo appearance by Christopher Poole (more commonly known as “moot,” the clandestine founder of 4chan), “Meow” has the makings of viral video virility.
