On Saturday, August 10, The Nines Festival rolls into Devens, MA. While concert-goers in Central Massachusetts have long trekked to Boston and Worcester for shows, this all-day festival of art, music and comedy is the first of its kind that is actually located in the area. But make no mistake – this is no county fair. The festival will feature performances by veteran touring acts, indie newcomers, and local bands alike. The cathartic instrumentalists Explosions in the Sky, as well as seasoned indie rockers Dr. Dog and Delta Spirit, will take the stage at Deven’s own Willard Field – a spot so local that Google Maps does not even recognize its existence. The Nines will also feature Kid Koala, renowned DJ and member of Deltron 3030, and Walk Off The Earth, known for their viral Youtube cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Best of all, there are no overlapping sets between the festival’s two stages, so nobody has to choose between bands.
The festival, presented by 3Rivers Arts and Great Northeast Productions, Inc., will be home to the “Stitch” comedy tent, featuring local and established comedians. The Nines will also host art exhibitions as well as interactive art pieces. According to their press release, 3Rivers Arts hopes the festival will establish Central Massachusetts as “a hub of artistic talent.”
