Preview: Gathering of the Vibes
by Jackson Connor, published July 19th 2011
What began 16 years ago as an annual hippie fest and memorial to the late Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia has matured into one of New England’s most eclectic and preeminent music and arts festivals. The 2011 Gathering of the Vibes, which takes place at Bridgeport, Connecticut’s Seaside Park July 21-24, boasts perhaps the most diverse group of headliners the festival has seen to date. Yes, Dead Heads will be pleased to know Phil Lesh and Bob Weir’s Furthur is back, and the jam band quota is well met with acts like moe., but headliners also include Elvis Costello and the Imposters, The Levon Helm Band, Jane’s Addiction, The Taj Mahal Trio, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, John Butler Trio and more.
Single day tickets range from $40 to $75 (VIP upgrades can be purchased for an additional fee, though for some days they already sold out) while camping passes are priced at $225. The full line-up of over 50 bands can be viewed at www.GatheringoftheVibes.com, as well as ticket information and a complete festival guide.
