Steamy California Beats
by Kyle Risley (Business), published July 8th 2010
Hello there! Aside from Sub Focus’s self-titled album and the upcoming Tastemakers Presents… show, here’s what’s been on my mind this past week…
‘California Gurls’ Remixes
Okay, I admit that I’m a bit late to the ‘California Gurls’ party. An irresistible chorus and so-sweet-it-hurts vocals, joined by a steady 4/4 kick made this song beg for a remix… or fifty (the same thing happened with ‘Hot N Cold’). Everyone from Armand Van Helden to MSTRKRFT to Passion Pit all took a stab at remixing the track and the good folks at Gotta Dance Dirty took the time to pull them all together for your listening pleasure. Check ‘em out and let me know which is your favorite!
Jack Beats – Revolution EP
Over the last two years Jack Beats have been absolutely dominating the blogosphere with their mixture of electro, house and dubstep. They’ve been busy boys as well, remixing just about every essential buzz act (Passion Pit, Florence and the Machine, La Roux, Hockey) as well as pumping out some originals. Last week they just released a double A-side EP, Revolution/Out of Body. Keep an eye on these guys, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them join Rusko as the new face of bass for the masses.
Kevin Devine – She Stayed As Steam EP
Those who know me understand the unending depth of my love for Kevin Devine. So it should come as no surprise that I’m excited for his new She Stayed As Steam EP. These Are Not Records are pressing 750 copies of the Coke bottle green 12′, which is on sale as of Tuesday and will definitely sell out. Two unreleased tracks from the Brothers Blood sessions, a remix of ‘Hand of God’ and ‘Another Bag of Bones,’ and two tracks from a session with Austrian radio station FM 4 from March round out the tracklisting, making it a collector’s delight. You can listen to the songs, minus the tracks from the radio session, below and purchase the record here.
Feel free to let me know what’s been rocking your speakers lately! God speed, happy listening and see you next week.
