Loefah & Caspa Ate The World

Tastemaker Happenings

Another busy week has passed us by here at Tastemakers. We’ve still been hard at work on Tastemakers Presents, which is coming together slowly but surely. Also, we met this week with WRBB and MEISA and we are starting to cook up a few cool ideas for this coming year. Plans are tentative at this point, but big things can be expected and you will be the first to know, I promise.
Loefah and Caspa Coming to Boston
In other news, my dubstep lovin’ self is immensely jealous of you Bostonians while I’m stuck at home in Pennsylvania, the primary reason being that the city will be seeing two large producers come through the city in the next couple of weeks. On July 28th, the undeniably influential Loefah will be stopping by Good Life, courtesy of the good folks at Bassic: Boston Dubstep and Future Dub. Before the macho wobble, monumental crescendos, and club-friendly stylings came to define the face of dubstep, Loefah and a few other producers relied on dark, sparse percussion, deep rhythms, and enough sub-bass to alter brain function. Do yourself and favor and get in touch with the genre’s roots next week at Bassic.
However, if the more party friendly version of dubstep is to your liking, do not miss Caspa on August 4th at The Middle East in Cambridge. As the owner of Dub Police and Sub Soldiers, Caspa has been a major influence on the dubstep’s “second wave” of producers and DJs, producing dance floor scorchers and consistently selling out Fabric with his label mates Rusko, The Others, Emalkay, and Trolley Snatcha.
Still on the fence? Check out his set alongside Crazy D from this past Wednesday on Kiss 100. Tracklist | Download
Jimmy Eat World Staging a Comeback?
If you’re anything like me, you probably haven’t really been paying much attention to Jimmy Eat World. Sure, the Clarity tour they did last year was a nice move and you might still put on “The Middle” when you’re drunk, but otherwise it seems as if their finer days are behind them. This is probably true, but there is still reason to give their upcoming album, Invented, a listen. Two words: Mark Trombino. The producer of Static Prevails, Clarity, Bleed American, and parts of Futures which later became the Stay on my Side Tonight EP, Trombino would certainly appear to be an essential element in Jimmy Eat World’s success. The first single off of Invented is titled “My Best Theory” and will be released in August with the album following on September 28th.
Drip…drip…drip… The Suburbs
And finally, in case you have not already been alerted by the deluge of frantically written posts (not unlike this one) that are sure to flood the blogosphere right about…now, The Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs has leaked. I’ll be writing some thoughts about it in the next few days and posting it under the CD Reviews section, so keep your eyes peeled for that .rar folder and review.
Aside from that, I’ll be vacationing to to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the next week. I’ll be reviewing a handful of albums during my downtime but only have a couple picked out so far. Want to see something reviewed? Leave me a comment and I’ll check it out!
P.S. Have you checked out Google Images lately?!
