A Movie, a Remix, and a Band.
by Kyle Risley, published July 1st 2010
As opposed to my last post, which was more of an introduction than anything else, my posts from here on out will detail whatever is interesting me at the moment. This will almost always be music, but there are always exceptions. Case in point…
Toy Story 3
Man, you need to check this out. It’s funny as hell, equally touching, and wraps up the Toy Story trilogy as well as anyone could have hoped. A must see for 2010. Also, I thought the 3D was done pretty well and worth the extra couple bucks if you have the opportunity.
Soulwax Remix LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem – You Wanted A Hit (Soulwax Remix)
With their remix of “You Wanted A Hit,” one of the many standout tracks off of LCD Soundsystem’s superb album This Is Happening, Soulwax have now remixed a track off of every LCD Soundsystem album. Although this remix is not quite as complex as their previous re-workings of Murphy’s tracks, it’s still a straight banger that will surely elevate any DJ set from 10 to 11.
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti
I just started listening to Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti after they’ve received glowing reviews from just about every major publication out there (including a perfect score from The Phoenix). On their latest album, Before Today, they blend a seemingly endless amount of different styles together; most notably 60′s pop, psychedelic rock, funk and jazz to form one of the most entertaining albums I’ve heard in a while. There are fun surf rock tunes, dark 80′s synth workouts and heaps of interesting arrangements. You can hear a few of the more interesting tracks on the Grooveshark application over on the side.
What do you think? Did Toy Story 3 make you tear up too? What’s been dominating your iPod lately? Let us know!
